What Sets Judy’s Organic Eggs Apart?

We have been raising Judy’s Family Farm Organic Brown Eggs since 1996 and we are proud to say it was the first Certified Organic Egg in California. Raised locally in Marin County, these eggs are certified by one of the nation’s oldest organic certifiers, Oregon Tilth.

When you buy Judy's Family Farm eggs, you're getting the family farm difference. We are the last independent family farmed egg available in most grocery stores in Northern California. When we get out of bed in the morning, we're not putting on dress shoes and a suit to go into the office, we're putting on jeans, t-shirt, and a pair of Redwings to head out to check on the chickens. 365 days a year, before we do anything else, we're taking care of our chickens. Growing up, my dad always told us that the chickens come first and that if we take good care of our chickens, they will take good care of us and that's a daily mantra we still live by.

Because we aren't owned by a private equity group or shareholders to please, we are free to do things the Petaluma Egg Farm way, even when it goes against conventional wisdom or the bottom line. Our family has been self-employed in some capacity for over 100 years so you can be sure that we won't be changing any time soon. Over the last couple of years, we've been working hard behind the scenes to make some exciting changes to our farm that we can't wait to show everyone! These are the kind of changes that most people wouldn't do because of cost, but for us, we think it's best for the chickens. Keep an eye out for that news to come out soon.

Our dedication to providing the highest-quality eggs is evident in every step of the process. Our hens are raised in open sided barns with natural ventilation where they can roam, socialize, preen, and dust bathe. We ensure that they receive a nutritious diet, free of antibiotics and hormones, which promotes the production of healthy and delicious eggs. Additionally, our farm follows strict biosecurity measures to prevent disease and maintain the health of our hens. We also undergo regular inspections by both governmental and independent agencies to ensure that we meet or exceed all industry standards.

About Certified Organic Eggs
All eggs labeled organic must meet the USDA National Organic Program standards and be inspected by a USDA certified inspection agency. The USDA Organic icon is a certification mark used by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to indicate that a product has been produced and processed according to the standards set by the USDA's National Organic Program (NOP).

The organic standards set by the NOP are designed to promote sustainable agricultural practices, reduce the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, and encourage the use of renewable resources. To be certified as organic, a product must meet a number of criteria, including:

  • No use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers

  • No use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs)

  • No use of irradiation, sewage sludge, or other prohibited substances

  • Use of organic seeds and plants

  • Implementation of crop rotation and other soil conservation practices

  • Use of animal welfare standards in animal production
